We love to buy clothes. We love to buy jewelry. And we definitely love to buy shoes! But there is one thing you can’t buy.
When you're young, you're too busy living life to think much about taking care of yourself.
You're working long hours, raising children, running nonstop from one place to another. Sports practice. Cheerleading events. School functions. Grocery runs. Laundry. Dinner. Repeat.
You're exhausted, but you keep going because that's what mothers do.
Back then, you're healthy enough that you don't really think much about it. Sure, you could exercise more. You could eat better. But there's always something or someone else that needs your attention first.
And honestly? You feel invincible.
Then one day you wake up, climb out of bed, and every joint in your body announces itself.
Your knees creak going down the stairs. Your back protests when you bend over. You make noises standing up that you swore you'd never make.
And suddenly you think:
"Wow… I really should've exercised more."
Now the kids are grown and gone. The house is quieter. There's finally time to focus on yourself again.
So you decide to do better.
You start walking. Lifting weights. Trying workouts you haven't attempted in years. You push through sore muscles and stiff mornings and eventually start feeling stronger again.
Then life throws another curveball.
Health problems.
The kind that stop you in your tracks.
Not exercising because you don't want to is one thing. Not exercising because your body simply can't is another kind of heartbreak altogether.
That's when you truly realize how much we take our health for granted.
We spend so much of our lives caring for everyone else that somewhere along the way, we neglect ourselves. We convince ourselves there will always be more time later.
But health is precious.
It is one of the few things money cannot buy.
God gave us these bodies, and we should take care of them the best we can while we can.
I turned 60 this year, and let me tell you something — I don't want to look 60 or feel 60. Lol.
Thankfully, my health has improved, and I'm able to exercise again. And I sure am grateful for that opportunity because not everyone gets it back.
These days, I appreciate movement differently.
A workout isn't punishment anymore.
It's a privilege.
A walk is a blessing.
Strength matters.
Energy matters.
Feeling good matters.
And…You look better in your clothes.
And if you're younger reading this, let me lovingly say this:
Please take care of yourself now.
Not later.
Not when life slows down.
Not when the kids grow up.
Now.
Because one day you may wish you could do the things your younger body once did so easily.
And trust me… you'll want that strength back.
So stretch. Walk. Lift weights. Eat better when you can. Rest when you need to. Take care of the body God gave you.
Because health truly is the one thing you can't buy.
